The Piggott Mohawk boys basketball team began 2019 with a road conference set at Rivercrest.

The senior squad jumped to an early lead in their contest with the Colts, and enjoyed a 19-15 advantage entering the second quarter of play. But, the host team responded in the second by outscoring their visitors 21-5 in the frame as they took a 36-24 lead into the break.

The Colts pushed the lead to 65-29 by the end of the third quarter, as they went on to post the conference win 77-49.

Shamar Jones led all scorers for the Colts with 22 while Trey Gossett paced the Mohawk offense with 14 in the loss.

All of the Mohawk teams were sin action Tuesday evening at PHS, as the Manila Lions came to town for a conference set. On the night the Lions proved too potent, as they swept the Tribe including a lopsided senior high win. They're scheduled to visit Gosnell on Friday and will play Maynard Saturday afternoon in the FNB Battle for the Border at Corning. Next Tuesday, Jan. 15, they'll visit Trumann in conference play and on Thursday, Jan. 17, Walnut Ridge visits PHS.
