Dorothy Gatewood, 95, Cherokee Village, Ark., formally of Rector, Ark. entered Heavans gates Monday, January 14, 2019, at Eaglecrest Nursing and Rehab Center in Ash Flat, Ark.
Mrs. Gatewood, the daughter of the late George and Florence (Bruce) Stout, was born July 9, 1923, in Butler County, Mo. She was of the Pentecostal faith.
During her earlier years, Mrs. Gatewood worked for Brown Shoe Company and later retired from Carter Carburetor in St. Louis, Mo. With a passion for helping others, she and her husband, Jim, operated a homeless shelter in Clay County, Ark. for many years.
Mrs. Gatewood loved spending time with her family.
On April 10, 1969, she married the love of her life, Jimmie Gatewood, at St. Joseph, Mo. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include seven children, Lillian Shelton, Arthur Tub, Brenda Chicot, Fred Gatewood, Susan Prescott, James Gatewood and Penny Gatewood; 17 grandchildren; several great and great-great grandchildren; and her sister, Vera Jones.
In addition to her parents, eight siblings preceded Mrs. Gatewood in death.
A graveside service and burial will take place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Kinsey Cemetery in Butler County, Mo. The Rev. Dustin Williams will officiate.
