Melda Mae (Shelton) Cavaness
Melda Mae (Shelton) Cavaness, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, was born July 14, 1933, in Rector, Ark., and passed from this life on January 2. 2019, in Bakersfield, Calif., where she had presided with her husband and family for many years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, George Earl Cavaness Sr.; her youngest son, Joey Cleveland Cavaness; her parents, Artie and Gertie Shelton of Rector; her only sister, Avis Adams of Rector; and her brothers, Burl Shelton, Buel Shelton, Norman Shelton and Claybourne Shelton. She was also preceded in death by two much-younger brothers, one as a toddler and one as an infant.
She loved her family very much, but loved GOD first. She had a birthday and anniversary card ministry for many years that was a real blessing to many. She was also a wonderful seamstress and sewed dresses for many church members and for many weddings.
She is survived by her three children. Her son, George Earl Cavaness Jr. and wife Judy; her oldest daughter, Betty Sue Black and husband Roger; and her youngest daughter, Cheryl (Sherri) McCoy; four brothers, Wayne and Shirley Shelton, of Kennett, Dewey and Betty Shelton of Rector, Doyne and Joann Shelton of Rector and Byron and Sandra Shelton of Paragould; along with 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was loved very much and will be greatly missed by her family and her special friends and by those who knew her. Till we meet again Mom, WE LOVE YOU.
