Lady Mohawks Beat Armorel at CHS, Fall to 'Noles
The Piggott Lady Mohawks beat Armorel 49-37 last Wednesday, Jan. 23, in the fifth place game of the First National Bank Battle for the Border Classic at Corning High School. The Tribe got 18 points from sophomore Claire Bellers, and 12 from senior Brielle Burkman, as they handled the Lady Tigers for their fourth win of the campaign.
In the finals at CHS, Ridgefield Christian beat Walnut Ridge for the boys title while the Lady Bobcats got by Sloan-Hendrix to take the championship. Meanwhile, Corning beat Maynard in the girls third place game.
Thursday evening the Lady Mohawks returned to 3A-3 competition, and dropped an 82-44 decision to the Lady Seminoles of Osceola at Piggott High School.
Monday night the Corning Lady Bobcats visited PHS, and had to rally late to hold-off the much-improved home team. The Tribe eased to a 9-7 leady by the end of the first, with the two squads knotted at 19-all at the break. The Lady Mohawks enjoyed a 26-25 advantage after three, but were outscored 20-11 in the fourth to set the final at 45-37.
In double figures for the Tribe were Abby Dutka with 18 and Bellers with 10.
The junior high contest also went to CHS, as they edged their hosts 39-30 in the early game.
The Tribe is slated to visit the Rector Lady Cougars this Friday as RHS observes senior night, and the PHS squad will mark senior night on Monday, Feb. 4, as they host Rivercrest at Piggott High in conjunction with the boy's team.
