Piggott Students Sweep County Spelling Bee
The annual Clay County Spelling Bee was held Tuesday, Jan. 22, in the library of Rector High School with students from Piggott sweeping the top three spots.
Serving as the announcer this year was retired RHS teacher Constance Johnston, and each district in the county was represented by a judge. Included were Lisa Woolery of Piggott, Amber Bucy of Rector and Kelly Brickly of Corning.
At the conclusion of the competition the three Piggott spellers finished in the same order they had finished in their local bee, with eighth grader Shawn-Hudson Seegraves taking first, seventh grader Londyn Morton earning second and sixth grader Wyatt Koyle in third. With the win, Seegraves qualifies for the upcoming state bee.
In keeping with a longstanding tradition, Shawn Parker of Piggott State Bank was on hand to present the winner with a cash prize.
