Mohawks Mark Senior Night for Hoops

Senior night was marked Monday evening prior to the Mohawks and Lady Mohawks game with Rivercrest. In keeping with tradition, the senior members of both teams and the cheerleading squad were recognized. The Piggott Mohawks wrapped up regular season play Monday night at PHS, as they marked senior night for the class of 2019. Afterward, they dropped a conference game to Rivercrest by a final of 74-46.

Doubling-up their hosts in the first quarter, the Colts took a 33-16 lead after one. The pushed it to a 48-29 advantage by the break, and led 70-38 at the end of the third en route to the win.

On the night the Tribe was paced by Holden Tarno with 16, while five of the Colts were in double figures.

Corning Games

On Tuesday, Jan. 29, the Mohawks visited Corning to wrap up their conference set with the Bobcats and fell 74-46. Quarter scores saw the host team up 27-14 by the end of the first, 47-23 at intermission and 58-37 going into the fourth.

Top scorers for the Tribe were Cooper Harris and Tarno with 12 each, while Lucas Barajas led all scorers with 21 in the win.

The junior high game also went to the host Bobcats, as they edged the Tribe 42-26.

The Mohawks will be playing in the upcoming 3A-3 district tournament at Manila, and are expected to draw a high seed as their opponent in the first round.

Lady Mohawks

The Piggott Lady Mohawks closed out the regular season in the past week, dropping a non-conference game at Rector on Friday and falling to Rivercrest Monday night at PHS. They'll next await the bracket for the upcoming 3A-3 district at Manila.

The Tribe came out strong at Rector High School on Friday, pushing to a 10-5 lead by the end of the first quarter. But, the host squad battled-back in the second, taking a 20-17 lead into the locker room at the break.

The Lady Cougars stepped-up the defense in the third quarter, outscoring their visitors 21-6 in the frame to take a 41-23 advantage into the fourth. They continued to pull away in the fourth, taking the quarter 17-11 to post the win by a final of 58-34.

Sassy Rahn and Abby Dutka both had 10 in the loss, while Brielle Burkman and Claire Bellers were limited to five each. Kena Parrish paced the winners with 25.

Monday night the Tribe hosted Rivercrest for senior night, and fell 41-34 to the Lady Colts. With the losses the PHS girls end the regular season at 4-19 overall and 2-14 in conference play. They will also be in action next week in the district at Manila.
