Rector Boys Fall to EPC in Regional at RHS
The Rector Cougar's quest to qualify for the upcoming 2A state basketball tournament ended Wednesday night as the boys in blue fell to EPC in their first round regional contest at RHS. The Cougars saw a six point halftime lead fade in the second half, as the Warriors came from behind to win 55-54 on a last second basket.
Max Ford paced the offense with 14 while Kale Hardin and Adam Romine had 13 each, Trey Rodden finished with eight and Evan Dooley had six. Jonathan Gilmore led all scorers for EPC with 17.
The Warriors now await the winner of today's contest between the Earle Bulldogs and the BIC Mustangs, set for 5:30, as they'll meet in the 5:30 semi-final on Friday.
In the earlier game, the Melbourne Lady Bearkatz had no trouble advancing past the EPC girls, beating the Lady Warriors 65-28 to advance. They'll play the winner of today's Lee-Marianna and Marmaduke game, set for 4 this afternoon, in the 4 p.m. semi on Friday.
The Earle Lady Bulldogs also advanced on Wednesday, eliminating Sloan-Hendrix by a final of 79-36. They'll take on the winner of tonight's contest between second-seeded Riverside and Clarendon, which will tip-off at 7 p.m., in the 7 p.m. semi-final on Friday at Rector High School.
In the late game on Wednesday, the top team in the stateóMarked Tree, beat Marmaduke 63-49 despite a lackluster first half. The Indians will take on the winner of tonight's late game between Bay and Clarendon, set to tip-off at 8:30. Their semi-final will be the late game on Friday, also set to tip at 8:30. The losers in the semi-finals will meet in the seeding games Saturday, with the girls playing at noon and the boys at 1:30. The championship games will be played Saturday evening at RHS with the girls game to tip at 6 p.m. and the boys game to follow at 7:30.
