Mohawk Junior Track in Action at Peco Relays
Members of the Piggott Mohawk junior track team took part in the annual Peco Junior Relays on Monday, March 11, at Pocahontas. The regional meet drew well over 500 competitors from 30-plus schools in both the boys and girls divisions.
The Mohawk boys team had good success in the field events, with Logan White finishing second in the shot put while Josh Redd was 15th. Meanwhile, Nicholas Helms was third in the discus, with Hunter Midkiff notching the 14th best throw.
The 4x100 team earned an eighth place finish with legs by Hayden Emerson, Ashton Smith, Will Vancil and Joe Carpenter. The same four runners also notched a 10th place finish in the 4x400.
Carpenter was also 28th in the 100 meter dash, with Vancil finishing 33rd; Emerson was 32nd in the 200 with Carpenter close behind in 33rd while Jacob Johnson finished 29th in the 400.
Jason Jefferies was 23rd in the 300 meter hurdles and 27th in the 110 meter hurdles.
Of the 22 teams scored, the Mohawks finished tied for 13th with Cave City. Paragould took the overall, followed by Nettleton and Valley View.
The Lady Mohawk junior team also made a good showing at Pocahontas, gaining a pair of top-10 finishes. Emmah Davis had a ninth place finish in the 1600 meter run, while Piggott's Katelyn Robertson was out of the points. Davis also posted the 34th best time in the 100 meter dash while Ryleigh Latham ran 30th. Kalaya Cole was also in the top-10 as she tied for a ninth place finish in the high jump.
Emma Langley finished 14th in the 800 meter run while Alyssa Blair was 19th in the 400. Blair also had the 31st best time in the 200 and also competed in the 800 out of the points.
The junior high track teams are slated to be back in action on Thursday, March 28, at Greene County Tech.
