Lady Mohawk Softball In Tourney Play

Marked Tree jumped out to an early need and Piggott could not recover as the Lady Indians posted an 11-1 win this past Saturday at Southside Softball Complex.

Brooklyn Blansett grounded out leading off for Marked Tree as Charli Simpson was hit by a pitch. Simpson moved to third on a passed ball and wild pitch as Harley Daniels walked. Katherine Hobbs singled to score Simpson making it 1-0 as Megan Lowry singled and Alana Williams reached on an error that scored courtesy runner Hannah Lowry and Megan Lowry to make it 3-0 Marked Tree. Shelby Tacker singled to score Williams making it 4-0. Elise Gossett grounded out leading off for Piggott as Madison Rahn struck out. Hayley Springsteen singled before Rylea Harmon struck out to end the inning. The score remained the same in the top of the second. Brielle Burkman struck out for Piggott leading off the bottom of the second inning as Shae Hewitt popped out. Maddie Reeves singled only to see Macey Williams ground out to end the inning.

Megan Lowry doubled leading off the top of the third inning for Marked Tree as they stretched the lead to 11-0 before Megan Lowry was hit by a pitch. Williams lined out and Tacker grounded out for the third out. The Lady Mohawks went three up and three down in the bottom of the third as Trista Crow struck out looking, Gossett grounded out and Rahn looked at strike three. Swink walked leading off the top of the fourth and moved to second on a ground out by Barnes. Swink moved to third on a passed ball before Blansett flew out and Simpson struck out. Springsteen singled leading off the bottom of the fourth for Piggott as Harmon coaxed a walk. Burkman reached on a fielder’s choice to load the bases before Hewitt’s fielder’s choice scored Springsteen making it 11-1 Marked Tree. Reeves struck out, Williams walked before Crow struck out to end the game via the run rule.

Springsteen had two hits and a run scored to lead the Lady Mohawks at the plate. Reeves had a hit as Hewitt had a RBI for Piggott. Williams took the loss as she gave up 11 runs on five hits in four innings of work. She walked three and struck out two.

Piggott lost their opening game of the tournament falling 11-1 to Blytheville. Gossett and Harmon had a hit each as Gossett scored the Lady Mohawks only run. Gossett was tagged with the loss as she gave up 11 runs on eight hits while walking six, striking out three and hitting two batters.

The Lady Mohawks lost their only game on Saturday 13-4 to Newport. With the losses they fall to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in conference.

The Tribe will be idle for spring break, and will return to action at home on Tuesday, March 26, as they host Rivercrest in conference play. On Thursday, March 28, Manila visits Independence Park and on Friday, March 29, the Lady Mohawks will visit Walnut Ridge in conference action.
