Renate Helga Frieda Schulz Conley Reeves, 85, of Piggott, Ark., also known as Grannie, passed away March 22, 2019, at the General Baptist Nursing Home in Campbell, Mo.
She was born on January 13, 1934, in Salzwedel, Germany, and was the daughter of Adolf and Frieda (Palussek) Schulz. She grew up in a small village in Germany later moving to the city of Frankfurt when she was a teenager. In Frankfurt, she worked as a hotel clerk where she was paid in room and board. It was during this time she met Carl Floyd Conley, who had been stationed in Germany as an MP.
On January 16, 1955, Renate married Carl and together they had a daughter, Simona Anne Conley. After Carl was discharged from the Army, the small family made the long venture by boat to the United States, arriving in New York then traveling by car to California. Several years later they moved to Arkansas to be closer to family. Renate worked many years in factories such as Gossards and Magna Tech where she made lifelong friends.
In 1980, Carl preceded Renate in death. She would later marry Pete Reeves and together Renate and Pete spent their days traveling from coast to coast and enjoying life to the fullest. She later worked at Piggott Elementary School in the Cafeteria. Co-workers can remember her coming in singing "Hey good looking. What 'cha got cooking?"
Many around town knew her as "Mona's Mother." In recent years she could be seen many days at The Treasure Chest chatting with Kelli and playing with Kelsi. In her last days, she told Kelsi that she was her "Saving Grace."
Renate loved football and would have in-depth conversations with Eric and Jacob about who was going to win the Super Bowl. She also enjoyed going to the Piggott Community Center to walk and attend Silver Sneaker classes. She especially loved the BRAD Senior Group, where she enjoyed playing and was very competitive on the Wii Bowling team. Renate attended Emmanuel Baptist Church with her family.
