High School Baseball Season in Full Swing
The Rector Cougars have remained fairly busy, despite weather concerns. Thursday they made the trip to Melbourne with the softball squad and dropped a 4-0 conference game to the Bearkatz. The following day the boys in blue returned to the Rector Athletic Complex and pounded Marked Tree by a final of 14-4. On Monday, they were once again at home as they took on Sloan-Hendrix, coming up on the short end of a nine-inning affair 4-3. They followed that up with a 13-3 loss at Riverside on Tuesday. They now stand at 4-5 overall and 1-5 in 2A-3 conference play.
Weather permitting, they'll get another shot at the Bearkatz Thursday as Melbourne visits Rector, and they'll be on the road at Cross County on Monday, April, 8.
It's been a roller coaster week for the Mohawk baseball squad, as they went 1-2 in conference play and had a double-header postponed on Saturday. On Tuesday, March 26, the Tribe was on the road to Trumann for a 3A-3 conference game with Trumann and came out on the short end of a 1-0 decision. Wednesday afternoon they played a home game with conference foes Walnut Ridge at Independence Park, and suffered a 17-1 loss.
Saturday they were slated to host the Rivercrest Colts in a double-header, but the rainy conditions forced them to postpone a week.
Monday they began a new week, and a new month, with a home contest with Hoxie and pounded the Mustangs by a final of 20-1. With the win they extend their season record to 5-3 and now stand at 4-3 in conference. They're slated to host the Corning Bobcats on Thursday, conditions permitting, and will make-up the double-header with the Colts Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 11:30 a.m. On Monday they're scheduled to visit Walnut Ridge and Tuesday they'll be on the road to Osceola for conference play with the Seminoles.
