Piggott FCCLA Brings Back Donkey Basketball
Three years ago the Piggott High School FCCLA brought Donkey Basketball back to the Piggott area. And, since the event proved to be such a success they're doing it again.
“We are using this event as a fundraiser for the trip to the national competition,” noted adviser Sandra Little.
Members of the Piggott High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) competed at the District and State FCCLA Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) Events where they received gold at both levels and were listed as the top winners at the state level—earning them a trip to the nationals.
“We appreciate very much that Piggott High School is very supportive of students who compete in academic type competitions by funding part of the experience but the chapter is responsible for what is not paid for by the school,” adviser Little offered. “ This year we have decided to have another donkey basketball game to raise the other money needed.”
This year's donkey basketball game will be held beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, in the Piggott High School middle gym. Advanced tickets are $8 and are being sold at a variety of local businesses, while tickets at the door are $10.
“We're also seeking local businesses for sponsorships,” Little added. “Anyone interested in sponsoring these girls who have advanced to nationals may contact me or Karen Coomer at the high school.”
Little also indicated that a portion of the proceeds from the event will also benefit the American Cancer Society, as well as funding the trip to the national competition.
