Mohawk Senior Track Team in Action
With the season near complete, members of the PHS Mohawk senior track team took part in a pair of meets in the past week. The Tribe thinclads visited Gosnell on April 9, for the senior invitational, and traveled to Paragould on Thursday for the Greene County Tech Senior Eagle Relays.
The meet at Gosnell was a combined event, with both boys and girls competing in the majority of the events. For the boy's team, Sky Wright and Gunner Shaw took second and third in the long jump; Shaw was third in the triple jump and sophomore Kyson Conley won the shot put with a distance of 41-04 while Austin Crow was sixth.
Shaw also took second in the 100 meter dash, with Wright finishing fifth; the 4x100 relay team of Logan Ralph, Wright, Michael Parker and Shaw took second and Thomas Dixon was fifth in the 400. The boys team also got a fifth place from Corbin Johndrow in the 800 while Angel Garcia ran eighth, and Brandon Smith was third in the 200.
In the field events, Jasmine Terry was eighth in the long jump for the Lady Mohawks. Meanwhile, Annalee Massey was sixth in the shot with Ashlyn Roberts in seventh. Meanwhile, Kalaya Cole was eighth in the high jump while Terry finished ninth.
Terry was also sixth in the 100 and 400, while Emma Shaw continued to dominate the 1600 meter run, taking first place by some 19 seconds. Willow Lewis took second in the 800, with Terry notching a seventh place finish. And, Lady Mohawk sophomore Katelyn Robertson continues to have a strong spring as she took first place in the 3200 by about a second.
At the Greene County Tech event on Thursday, Robertson continued her dominance in the 3200 with another first, beating the runner in second by nearly 30 seconds as she recorded a time of 15:19:09.
Meanwhile, Terry took fifth in the long jump, Massey and Roberts were third and fourth in the shot, Terry was ninth in the 100, Shaw ran another strong 1600, taking second as she was edged by a GCT runner; Lewis was fourth in the 800 and Terry had a ninth place finish in the 200.
For the boys team, Shaw and Wright took second and fourth in the long jump while Conley again dominated the shot put, winning by about 10 inches. Meanwhile, Shaw was second in the 100 yard dash; the relay team of Ralph, Wright, Parker and Shaw was second in the 4x100; Ristol Payne took sixth in the 400, while Thomas Dixon ran seventh; Corbin Johndrow was seventh in the 800 and Garcia was ninth. Also competing in the 200 were Smith and Trent Stephens, as they notched 13th and 12th place finishes respectively.
Monday afternoon the junior track teams took part in their district at Osceola, and complete details may be found in next week's edition of the CCTD.
