The Piggott Lady Mohawk softball team's season ended last week in the first round of the 3A-3 district tournament at Trumann. Playing shorthanded due to conflicts, the PHS girls dropped a 16-1 decision to the Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats.

Piggott's Hayley Springsteen got the start, and took the loss, giving up 16 runs on 16 hits while striking out two and walking three of the Lady Bobcats. She also had a hit, and scored the Tribe's lone run in the loss.

In the second round the Lady Bobcats were eliminated by Gosnell, with Rivercrest beating Corning in the other quarterfinal game. In the semi-final round Gosnell beat Trumann and Rivercrest downed Hoxie. On Monday, the Lady Colts took the crown with a 13-8 win over Gosnell while Trumann beat Hoxie 5-3 in the third-fourth place seeding game.

All four will be in action this week in the 3A Region 3 softball tournament at Palestine-Wheatley.

As for the Lady Mohawks, they'll return a wealth of starting talent to next year's squad as the only seniors were Springsteen, Brielle Burkman and Megan Marcus.
