Piggott Fourth of July Picnic Falls Victim to Pandemic

Friday, May 8, 2020

On Friday, the Piggott Cemetery Association announced that this year's Fourth of July Picnic has fallen victim to the COVID-19 pandemic and reduced to just a fireworks display--unless conditions improve drastically. Board president Fred Ort offered this in a news release.

"At Tuesday’s Piggott Cemetery Board meeting, under the present circumstances, the board voted to limit this year’s 4th of July celebration to the fireworks display only. This decision did not come lightly; however, we considered the safety of our community was not worth the risk of COVID-19 exposure. Also, the Arkansas Department of Health issued a directive effective Monday, May 4, 2020, limiting outdoor venues where the physical distancing of at least six (6) feet can be easily achieved. If circumstances and Health Department directives change, we will consider having a limited celebration."

Additional details may be found in the upcoming print edition of the CCTD.
