Pollard and St. Francis Picnics Canceled Due to Pandemic

Thursday, May 28, 2020

The annual St. Francis Picnic, set for mid-July, is the latest event to be canceled in light of the ongoing pandemic. On Wednesday, this release was shared by organizers.

“The Hall and Gravel Hill Cemetery Association has made the decision to cancel the 2020 St. Francis Annual Picnic due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year the cemetery association will be taking monetary donations only to help with the cost of the cemetery mowing and maintenance.

Donations can be mailed to:

Hall and Gravel Hill Cemetery Association

P.O. Box 38

St. Francis, Arkansas 72464

If you would like a donation letter with more information, please leave a comment (on their Facebook page) or call 870-598-5944 or call/text 870-324-0656."

In turn, organizers of the annual Pollard Picnic followed suit over the weekend with this letter to supporters and the public.

"Dear Friends and Supporters of New Hope Cemetery,

The NHC Association has voted to cancel the POLLARD PICNIC slated for July 11, 2020 due to the COVID-19/coronavirus pandemic. The main concerns were that the CDC Guidelines and AR Governors Directives for everyone’s health and safety, could not be achieved for this type of event at this time. The lack of food supplies also played a role in this decision.

The profits of the picnic have always played a huge part of income for the cemetery. The lack of a picnic this year will not change how the cemetery is kept groomed and tended to as usual. We do ask, if you have not contributed in the past, that you feel led to do so this year. Those that have sent donations in the past, we hope you continue to do so.

The price for a cemetery grave is $100.00 each. Those wishing to buy a grave or have any questions concerning the cemetery or the picnic grounds may contact Steve Baker cell 870-634-6195 (preferred) or leave a message on 870-544-2672 or send an email to: steve.mitzi@centurytel.net

Thank you and God Bless each of you to remain safe and healthy.

New Hope Association Board Members: Cary Wilson, Mike Lambert, Zach Baker, Gary Conley, Gary Howell, Wayne Hendley, Marty Conley, Lance Langley, Roger Baxter

Donations may be mailed to:

For a number of years volunteers from St. Francis and Pollard have joined forces to staff the dining rooms at the two events.

Recently, the Piggott Cemetery Association reported the annual Fourth of July Picnic and Celebration will be limited to just a fireworks show on July 4.
