James Willard Whaley
James Willard Whaley, 100, of Piggott, Ark., passed away December 29, 2020, at Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott. He was born on August 4, 1920, in Morganton, Ark., and was the son of David and Mary (Pike) Whaley.
Willard was united in marriage to Stella Mae Riddle on Feb. 15, 1946.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella Mae Whaley; father, David Washington Whaley; mother, Mary Ellen Whaley; an infant brother; and a sister, Reva Graddy.
Willard was drafted into the Army during World War II, serving in Normandy during the Battle of the Bulge and four other major battles.
Survivors include his son, Vance Whaley and wife Debra of Piggott; grandchildren, Michelle McKinnie and husband Jerry of Piggott and Barry Whaley of Piggott; great-grandchildren, Wil Whaley of Piggott, Nicholas McKinnie of Piggott, Brady Whaley of Piggott, Cody McKinnie of Blytheville, Ark., Jerad McKinnie and wife Megan of Fort Worth, Tex., Cory Robertson of Fayetteville, Ark. and Kelli Carroll and husband Tony of North Little Rock, Ark.; great-great grandchildren, Carson McKinnie, Hera Whaley, Rhett McKinnie, Cotton Rouse Carroll and RiverRay Carroll; a brother, Chartee Whaley and wife Shirley of Piggott and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 3, at the Piggott Cemetery, in Piggott, with Bro. Loran Johnson officiating. Burial is in Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Barry Whaley, Wil Whaley, Nicholas McKinnie, Brady Whaley, Jerry McKinnie and Terry Pollard.
Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home, of Piggott, is in charge of the arrangements. A visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on Sunday, at Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home, prior to the graveside service.
