Remember the day Walmart locally introduced self-checkout registers? The world might not have been ending, but we were right there at the line of it. There were shouts of, “They don’t pay me to work here!” and “Where’s my discount card?” Honestly, I understood the frustration. It was a change we weren’t expecting — one that felt abrupt, impersonal and, for some, unnecessary.
Piggott Elementary School PACE Odyssey of the Mind teams has once again qualified for state competition. The teams competed Saturday, March 8 at the Regional tournament at Brookland with Problem 5 team winning first place and Problem 3 team winning third place.
The new Little Mister and Miss RHS, Jason Tucker and Alaina Miller, were announced Sunday, March 9, during the Rector Alumni basketball game.
All Rector Elementary students finished up the throwing accuracy event in Miss Hannah’s PE class on Friday, March 7 for week six of their Olympic games.
The City of Piggott will be hosting a cornhole tournament at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26. at the Piggott Community Center. Those interested may call 870-598-2003 or email acrittenden@cityofpiggott.org. Sign-up fee is $45 per team with a 60/40 payout. A food truck will also be available during the event.

With only a couple of weeks remaining before the event, the Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce reminds local residents to make their plans for the annual Piggott City Wide Yard Sale. This year’s sale will be held Saturday, April 5, and sales held that day are not required to purchase a permit from the city. Locations will also be featured on a list, which will be available from the Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce. Those wanting to list their sale, along with a brief description, may do so by email at chamberpg@yahoo.com or call 870-598-3167. The last day for listings is Tuesday, April 1.
