2025 St. Francis Picnic Pageant Winners
Entertainment rang through the Ford Room thanks to Emma Langley and her tremendous performance. Allen Wooldridge impressed the crowd with exciting accompaniment and showed his own prowess on the guitar with riffs and crazy techniques.
Extreme heat greeted visitors to the annual St. Francis Picnic, held Saturday, July 19, to benefit the Hall and Gravel Hill cemeteries. In response, good crowds gathered for the popular mid-summer event.
Clay County Quorum Court met in regular session on Monday, July 21 at the Piggott courthouse with Justices Dennis Haines, Patrick Patterson, David Hatcher, Brad Green, Randy Kingston and Jody Henderson present. Justices David Cagle, George Lowe and Neal Smith were absent.
Tom Haynes, established attorney and fifth-generation Northeast Arkansan, has officially announced his candidacy for Circuit Judge in the 2nd Judicial Circuit, which serves Clay, Craighead, Crittenden, Greene, Mississippi, and Poinsett counties.
Sign-ups are underway for a co-ed softball tournament set for Saturday, Aug. 30 in Piggott. The event will be held at the Piggott City Field and will consist of a 3-game minimum. A 7-3 format (must have at least three females on the field), will be in place. Cost for the tournament is $200 per team. Piggott Parks and Recreation will be hosting a co-ed softball adult fall league on Monday nights beginning Aug. 11. Ages for the league is 16 and up and format will be 6/4 (must play with four girls minimum). Cost is $200 per team and last day to register is Friday, Aug. 1. Powhatan Historic State Park will host a Band Box Workshop on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join park staff and learn the Victorian art of making a decorative hat box, glasses case, or tea box.
Powhatan Historic State Park will host a Trial by Jury on Saturday, Aug. 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. Join park staff and become the judge, part of the jury, a lawyer, or maybe even the accused as they bring a court case from Powhatan’s history to life. No acting experience is needed, but participants should come ready to dive in and interact with each other. Space is limited and registration is required. Registration fee is $25.
