The aged Clay County Jail was ordered closed 30 years ago this month. Pictured here near the end of its life, the jail had fallen into disrepair, and its replacement sparked numerous arguments over where the new detention center should be located. We’ve shared this photo before, but younger readers will likely not remember what it looked like—unless they’ve seen “A Face in the Crowd” which included the building in the scene with all the dogs.(file photo)
