It's Beginning To Look Like Christmas
I awoke this morning to a cold drizzle and before long I saw a flicker of lightning followed by the expected thunder. So, I, of course lit a candle and wrapped myself in a couple of afghans to sip my coffee and wait for daybreak. Sunrise comes late this time of year. Saturday will be the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year. After that the sun will come earlier each day, making the nights a few minutes shorter and giving those minutes to the day. It’s a time of reset. Although it comes in the dead of winter with months of frigid temps ahead, it heralds the earliest promise of the earth’s awakening.
The Rector Christmas parade was Friday with a community party at the Rector Community Center afterward. There was a crowd at the community center to visit with Santa and sing carols. It is always a festive family affair. Thank you, Community Center Committee for providing this fun-filled event.
This Thursday is the third Thursday in December, so you know what that means. Another mini concert at the Rector Community Museum. Dennis Gurley and the Eggmen will be here to entertain us. I have not seen this group before, so I am looking forward to it. Please come out and join us. That is Thursday 19, at 7:00 p.m. See you there.
And then, oh my goodness! Next week is Christmas! Already. I hope you have your Christmas shopping done, but don’t forget we have Honeysuckle and Home on Main Street if you need another gift or two.
If I missed an event you are interested in, please let me know and I will tell everyone about it next week. It is not too early to start singing Happy Holiday songs. Keep the Christmas spirit going.
That’s it for this week. I am always updating the Rector website. Please take a look at the web page and let me know if there are updates or changes that need to be made. I do take suggestions and criticism fairly well. www.rectorarkansas.com . It’s your page for your town, so give me your input.
What else is going on that you would like to see in this column? Give me a heads up and I will share it with everyone else. Email: porchswing@newwavecomm.net . Phone number (870) 595-4997.
God bless our troops wherever they are.
