Clay County Sheriff ’s Dept. makes arrests

On Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023, at approximately 11:10 p.m. a Clay County deputy made a traffice stop on a pickup truck pulling a trailer with no lights or license plates on the trailer. The stop was made at Casey’s in Corning. While the deputy was dealing with one of the individuals a passenger in the vehicle tried to hide and destroy a small baggy that later tested positive as methamphetamine. A search was conducted of the individuals and vehicle where illegal items were found. Arrested and trans-ported to the Clay County Detention Center were 45-yearold Kelly A. Clossen of Corning and 58-year-old Gordon K. Crosland of Walnut Ridge. Clossen was booked in for possession of controlled substance methamphetamine, felong possession of drug paraphernalia, and felony tampering with physical evidence. Crosland was booked in for possession of controlled substance methamphetamine and felony possession of drug paraphernalia. Corning Police Department assisted with the traffic stop.

Hemingway in Venice event to be held at SCCC

Sugar Creek Country Club will host the Hemingway in Venice event at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7. The night will begin with a beautiful black and white photography exhibit of Hemingway’s time in Venice. Special speaker for the event will be Robert K. Elder, author of ‘Hemingway in Comics’ and he will also be holding a book signing. Tickets for the event are $40 per person. Donations being accepted for coat drive at PFMC

Piggott First Methodist Church is currently accepting donations of new/gently used winter coats through Saturday, Oct. 14. Items being accepted are warm coats, winter jackets and waterproof outerwear for children (boys and girls), all sizes. Monetary donations are also being accepted. Drop off locations include Jim Watson Real Estate, Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce office, Sugar Creek Country Club, Cajun Dave’s, Piggott Community Center and the Piggott Public Library. Items will be distributed Sunday, Oct. 15 at the church’s free community dinner.

Piggott Library to host National Good Neighbor Day block party

The Piggott Public Library will host a National Good Neighbor Day Block Party beginning at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28. The event will feature live music, free popcorn, snow cones, games, and a 50/50 drawing. Everyone is invited to drop by and enjoy the fun. The library is located at 361 W. Main.
