Richard Dale “Rick” Thompson, age 66, of New Bloomfield, Mo., passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at Landmark Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Born on November 20, 1956, in Flint, Mich., Rick was the son of the late Billy E. and Betty (Greer) Thompson. After first meeting while in the Navy, Rick reconnected with Beverly Henderson, and they exchanged vows on August 4, 2002, in Isle of Palms, South Carolina. Beverly continues to reside at their home in New Bloomfield.

Rick grew up in Piggott, Ark., and was part of the Piggott High School graduating class of 1975. Immediately after high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he faithfully served aboard the L. Mendel Rivers (SSN686) from 1975 to 1981, earning an honorable discharge and taking great pride in his service to country.

Following his military service, he relocated to Missouri and embarked on a 38year career with Ameren’s Callaway Nuclear Power Plant. Rick retired from Ameren in 2018, but shortly after he joined Fenwick Project Management LLC as a construction supervisor supporting the Callaway Plant.

Rick was deeply committed to the New Bloomfield Fire Department serving as a volunteer fireman for over three decades and was recently appointed the role of Mentoring Fire Fighter. He also held membership in the American Legion Post 202, where he served with great honor as part of their Honor Guard, participating in military ceremonies to pay tribute to fellow veterans.

Rick was a true outdoors enthusiast finding joy in activities like cycling, hiking, excursions to the Smokey Mountains and Kentucky’s bourbon trail, and countless hours spent at Truman Lake in Warsaw, Mo. Rick’s greatest happiness was found in the company of his beloved family and friends. He will forever be cherished for his playful sense of humor, and the joy he found in sharing a nice glass of bourbon or a fine cigar with friends. His heart overflowed with compassion and generosity, leaving a lasting mark on all who crossed his path.

Rick’s unwavering faith in God, dedication to family, and commitment to community were central to his life. His legacy is one of selfless service. His dedication to helping others will forever be an integral part of the tapestry of his life, a story cherished by all fortunate enough to know him.

Rick leaves behind: his wife, Beverly Thompson of New Bloomfield, Mo.; three beautiful daughters, Sarah Rotter (Glen) of Holts Summit, Mo., Brittney Medlin (Jess) of California, Mo., and Rachel Keller (Steven) of Jefferson City, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Brooklynn and Ayden Anderson, Brantley Pitts, Jess, Charley, and McKenzie Medlin, and Taylor Ousley; bonus granddaughters, Sydney Rotter and Hunter Bowers (Lewis); honorary son, Mateo Arevalo; one sister Regina Conklin (Brian) of McLean, Va.; one brother Whitney Thompson (Sandra) of Piggott, Ark.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Billy and Betty Thompson, and brother Gary Thompson.

Memorial services were held Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Holts Summit, Mo.

Graveside services with full military honors were held Sunday, September 10, 2023, at Williams Cemetery in Piggott.
