Joe Henderson, 83, of Piggott, Ark., passed away October 21, 2020, at Piggott General Baptist Nursing Home, in Piggott.
He was born on August 16, 1937, in Hill County, Tex., and was the son of the late George Dewey and Ida (Hester) Henderson.
Joe was united in marriage to Gail Lynn Neely, in Holly Springs, Miss., on Nov. 29, 1958. This union was blessed by three children, Joseph Cleaon Henderson, Jennifer Lynn (Henderson) McPherson and James Dewey Henderson.
On December 3, 2013, his wife, Gail, preceded him in death.
He was also preceded in death by his son, James Dewey Henderson; granddaughter, Angelic Perez; grandson, Rusty McPherson; and four brothers, Wayne, James, George Jr. and Donald Henderson.
Joe was a member of the United States Navy for six years, serving on the USS Essex. He was a student of military and aviation, and especially enjoyed reading about World War II. He also loved duck hunting.
Survivors include his son, Joseph "Jody" Henderson and wife Giovanna of Piggott, and daughter, Jennifer McPherson and husband David of Piggott; grandchildren, Lauren Thompson and husband KC of Orlando, Fla., Ian Henderson, Zane Henderson, Chaz Perez and wife Nicole of Piggott, Nina Portillo and husband Alberto of Missouri City, Tex., Matthew McPherson and fiancee Lauren of Paragould, Ark., and Brady McPherson and fiancee April of Piggott; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Earnest Henderson and wife Janette of Itasca, Tex.; sister, Laverne Fletcher of Fort Worth, Tex.; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel, in Piggott, with Jerry Morgan officiating. A private family burial will be held at Piggott Cemetery in Piggott.
Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home, of Piggott, is in charge of the arrangements.
