Rector High School will host graduation ceremonies for the class of 2022 at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 15. A total of 40 seniors are scheduled to take part in commencement, as they are slated to begin the next chapter of life.
Special Olympics Arkansas started its torch run on Mon-day, May 9. Activities kicked off with the Law Enforcement Torch Run June 14. Officers from all over the state will carry the Flame of Hope in their cities from which the iconic flame will make its way to Little Rock.
Early voting got underway Monday for the 2022 May Preferential Primary. The Clay County Clerk’s office reports at the end of Monday some 142 citizens had voted early. Piggott had 97 early voters with Corning having 45 early voters.

Billie Jean Banks, 68 of Rector, Ark., passed away on May 1, 2022, at her home. She was born in St. Louis, Mo., to the late Thomas and Agnes (Dowdy) Bell. Billie dearly loved her family and anything to do with Elvis Presley.
The Arkansas Office of Skills Development (OSD), a division of the Department of Commerce, is awarding Black River Technical College $201,915 for its Career and Technical Center (CTC). BRTC was provided the additional funding to expand high-skill, highwage, and industry driven programs.
The NRA Foundation has awarded Black River Technical College a grant totaling $1500 for the BRTC Trap and Skeet Club. “We are very pleased to receive this grant,” said Jason Smith, Vice President of Student Affairs, “and grateful to the NRA is making an investment in our club.”
