Historians note in the 19th century, homes lacked electricity and gas to cook food and meals were cooked over the fire. With this in mind, a Victorian Dutch oven workshop has been planned. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 28, and the registration fee is $20. Organizers note participants will leave with a recipe booklet, and knowhow of 19th century cooking. Beginning May 16, BRTC will begin following summer hours. Campuses will be open from 7 a.m.

Early voting continues for the upcoming May 24 Preferential Primary. The polls are currently open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Early voting will end at 5 p.m. on Monday May 23. The polls will be open on election day from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Clay County residents may vote at any of the polling locations in the county.

Ervin Hill appeared before Judge Chris Thyer in court for his trial date on Monday, April 25 with his attorney J.L. Wilson.

The Rector School District is once-again taking part in the USDA Summer Feeding Program this year. Under the program, lunch and breakfast will be served at the Rector School cafeteria to anyone free of charge 18 years and younger. Rector will be offering the meals starting June 1, and running through July 29. No meals will be served the week of July 4 through 8.

Readers of all ages will explore all things about oceans this summer as the Piggott Public Library presents “Oceans of Possibilities” during their summer reading program. Activities may include music, crafts, games, books and special guests.
