Rector High School Helping Hands Foundation wrapped up business for 2021 activities and benevolence program at a recent board meeting. Sherry Dills, president, and Heather Simmons, secretary-treasurer, each presented year-end reports.
The Rector School District is once-again taking part in the USDA Summer Feeding Program this year. Under the program, lunch and breakfast will be served at the Rector School cafeteria to anyone free of charge 18 years and younger. Rector will be offering the meals through July 29. No meals will be served the week of July 4 through 8.
Between the inked pages of any local newspaper and beyond news stories, there are stories of wins and losses, businesses and social doings, deaths and births and entertainment. There are advertisements and legals and in our paper there are prayer requests. Our newspaper like others, are more important to a community than some might suspect.
Clay County Quorum Court met in regular session at 7 p.m. Monday, June 27 at the courthouse in Corning, with Justice David Hatcher absent.
The 95th annual Piggott Fourth of July Picnic and Homecoming Celebration kicks-off Saturday afternoon, July 2 with the alumni softball and baseball games at Independence Park. The softball game registration starts at 4:30 p.m. with the game starting at 5:30. Registration for the baseball game starts at 6 p.m. with the game starting at 7 p.m. Players must be Piggott graduates; however, it is not required to have been a ball player to participate in the alumni games. Paul Bishop, 85 of Rector, Ark., passed away at his residence on June 23, 2022. He loved his family and spending time outside working in his yard and garden. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing hymns.
The last of the “Conley girls” has left our midst and will be sorely missed. Lora Fay Collier, 87 years old, died on Sunday, June 19, 2022, in her home in Piggott, Ark. She was born on Wednesday, April 17, 1935, to Doylis Odell Conley and Alma Marie (nee Baker) Conley in Pollard, Ark. She was the second of four daughters. Mrs. Dora Causey sat with her mother during the birth and was considered her godmother.
Barbara Anna Johnson, 75, of Rector, Ark., passed away June 18, 2022, at St. Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
Ted Smith, 78, of Jonesboro, Ark., died Tuesday, June 21, 2022. Born Dec.
