Summer Feeding Program continues at Rector School District

The Rector School District is once-again taking part in the USDA Summer Feeding Program this year. Under the program, lunch and breakfast will be served at the Rector School cafeteria to anyone free of charge 18 years and younger. Rector will be offering the meals starting June 1, and running through July 29. No meals will be served the week of July 4 through 8.

HPMEC welcomes writer-in-residence

Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Education Center is happy to welcome author Matt Gallagher of Tulsa, Okla., as this year’s writerin-residence. Gallagher will be living and working in Piggott for the month of June. A native of Reno, Nev., Gallagher has lived in many places, and served in the Army which included a tour of Iraq.

PES RECEIVES GIFT FROM NEW HOPE

The New Hope Baptist Church family was privileged to give a $110 Wal-Mart gift card to each elementary school grade at Piggott Elementary School. Pre-K through sixth grade will each use the cards to help with the beginning of school needs. Early voting underway

Early voting in the runoff election for the Piggott School Board position is underway. Voters may cast their early votes at the Piggott Community Center from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and on Monday June 20. Election day is Tuesday, June 21, and the polls will be open from 7:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. with voting at the Piggott Community Center.

Baker retires from Clay County Extension Service

After working at the Clay County Extension Office for 18 years, FCS agent Debbie Baker has retired. A surprise retirement celebration was held Wednesday, June 8 at the Piggott First Baptist Church.. A slideshow of Baker was shown while the attendees enjoyed the delicious meal provided. The venue was beautifully decorated as family, friends and co-workers, past and present, were on hand to congratulate her.
