Armbands on sale for annual Piggott Fourth of July Picnic

The carnival will onceagain return for this year’s event, and armbands are on sale now for $30 each. They’ll be $35 after July 1, and at the picnic grounds on July 4. There will be no advanced sale of armbands for Sunday, July 3. There is a Sunday night special only in which armbands will be $20 and can be purchased at the picnic grounds. Armbands are currently on sale at Fred Ort Insurance Agency, Piggott State Bank, First National Bank-Piggott Banking Center, The Nest, Treasure Chest, Cox Lumber Company and Al Williams and Sons Nursery.

Piggott School District accepting applications for Pandemic-EBT

Pandemic-EBT is a federal program designed to provide food support to families with children who were receiving free and reduced-price school meals and missed school for COVID related absences. It can help families pay for food when students are absent from school due to a COVID-19 related isolation or quarantine. The Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), in collaboration with the Department of Human Services, received approval to operate this program in response to the COVID-19 related school closures for school year 2021-2022.

BRTC hosts CAIC training

On June 2, BRTC hosted the Consortium of Arkansas Independent Colleges (CAIC) Board Training. The colleges that attended included Arkansas Northeastern College, East Arkansas Community College, National Park College, North Arkansas College, Northwest Arkansas Community College, Ozarka College, South Arkansas College, Southeast Arkansas College, and BRTC.

Canning workshop to be held

Powhatan Historic State Park will host two canning workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 2 and July 9. The cost of the workshop is $20 and reservations are required. Those taking part will learn the process and history of canning foods, and pick up some tips as well. Vacation Bible School set at New Hope Baptist Church

New Hope Baptist Church in Pollard is hosting Vacation Bible School each Wednesday night through July 20. Those attending will be served a meal at 5:30 p.m. with VBS being held from 6 to 8 p.m. This year’s theme is “Spark Studios” as those attending will have their imagination ignited and creativity awakened. Classes are available for preschool through youth. Greenway Fire Department receives Wildfire Suppresion Kit

The Rural Fire Protection program, managed by the Arkansas Department of Agriculture’s Forestry Division, received $279,562.45 as part of the 2021 Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant from the United States Forest Service to purchase and distribute 87 Wildfire Suppression Kits to rural volunteer fire departments. The kits include equipment and gear necessary for the safe suppression of wildfires and have been delivered to several volunteer fire departments.
