The suspect in the murder of Matthew Hale of Rector appeared for a hearing July 28 at the Clay County courthouse in Piggott before Judge Pamela Honeycutt and was granted a continuance until October 10, 2022, with trial October 24. Hunsaker was scheduled for trial July 11 through the 15.
CherryRoad Media, the new owners of the Clay County Times-Democrat, had a very warm welcome to Piggott last week. Chief of Police, Jeremi Wicker, and his professional (and understanding) police force quickly arrived on the scene last Thursday in front of our office.
Lifetime resident of Piggott, June Williams, will serve as this year’s grand marshal in the 95th annual Fourth of July Parade. Williams was married to Royce Williams for 52 years until his passing in 2010. She is very proud of the five daughters she has: Vanessa Hartwell, Penny Ballard, Sandy Low, Laura Beth Copelin and Dina Hope. June remarked, “I love having all the kids, grandkids and great grands running in and out of the house. For the 4th of July I get barbeque and chicken and lots of other food and they are in and out all day and I love it!” She also has 10 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren of whom she is very proud of.

1982 Allison Shanklin and Darla Stow attended the fortieth annual Arkansas Girl’s State June 6-11 at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia. Allison and Darla each had a really great time.
A candlelight prayer service for Lorelei McNabb’s return home was held at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, at the Rector Downtown Park with over 300 people in attendance. McNabb had been missing since Sunday, June 5, 2022. According to a release from the Clay County Sheriff’s Department, McNabb was found Monday, June 20, in Poplar Bluff, Mo. Willie Dale Arnold, 78 of Piggott, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at his residence in Piggott, Ark. Willie, son of Ruth Ann Hopkins Arnold, was born on Friday, April 7, 1944 in Qulin, Missouri.
