Dortha Jean Huff, 83 of Rector, Ark., passed away on June 12, 2022, at the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, Ark. She was born to the late Freeman and Turna (Mailer) Huff in Clay County, Ark.

Eudean Shrum Engle, born September 25, 1940, passed from this earth on June 16, 2022. She is preceded in death by her parents, Pickney Shrum and Faye Shrum Fiffe; one daughter, Kim Engle Johnson and one grandson, Alex Landon Engle.
Danny Franklin Cates, 75, of Piggott, Ark., passed peacefully in his home, June 15, 2022. He was born on January 9, 1947, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., and was the son of Roy V. Cates and Josephine Lancaster.
The annual Pollard Picnic, to benefit the New Hope Cemetery, will be held Saturday, July 1, in Pollard. As usual, this year’s picnic will include a full schedule of beauty pageants for contestants of all ages.
Once again, a full schedule of pageants from birth to 20 years will accompany the Piggott Fourth of July picnic. The first three pageants will be held the evening of July 3, with the remainder being held on July 4. All pageants will be held on the stage at the picnic grounds.
Rector’s Toby Hollis named to University of Iowa dean’s list for 202 spring semester Toby Hollis of Rector, Ark., was among the more than 4,000 undergraduate students at the University of Iowa named to the dean’s list for the 2022 spring semester. Hollis is a third year student in Iowa’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and is majoring in Computer Science.
New Hope Baptist Church in Pollard is hosting Vacation Bible School each Wednesday night through July 20. Those attending will be served a meal at 5:30 p.m. with VBS being held from 6 to 8 p.m. This year’s theme is “Spark Studios” as those attending will have their imagination ignited and creativity awakened. Classes are available for preschool through youth. The PHS class of 1982 will be holding their 40-year class reunion on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at the Sugar Creek Country Club. The cost will be $25.00 per person / $50.00 per couple. Classmates can arrive between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. The class photo will be taken at 7 p.m.
The PHS Class of 1962 will be celebrating the 60th anniversary of their high school graduation on July 4, 2022. Class members plan to meet at the kitchen of the picnic grounds at 12:30 p.m. for lunch with visitation to follow. Friends from that era are welcome to join them for informal reminiscing. The Class of ’62 looks forward to celebrating with their friends from classes in the 60’s.
The children of Homer and Dora Causey will be hosting a family reunion at 11:30 a.m. o Saturday, June 25, at the Pollard Picnic grounds. All family and friends are invited to attend. Organizers note a potluck meal will be served at noon.
