The Black River Technical College Law Enforcement Training Academy (LETA) has developed Active Shooter Training for Educators. This curriculum contains the most current guidelines established by the United States Department of Homeland Security.

The Arkansas State University Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center and the University of Arkansas partnered on a Tree ID program for the museum. Dr. Vic Ford and his team: Allsion Howell, Stewart Brunswick, Rae Dawson, Jerry Clemons, and Andy Vangilder assisted Director Shannon Williams with the program. Select trees were chosen to age and identify on the grounds. The trees ranged from 60 - 150 years of age. The trees will be a part of an outdoor exhibit. BRTC’s respiratory therapy (RT) and paramedic programs conducted a Mass Casualty Incident Simulation and Vehicle Extrication Simulation on June 1, 2022. Students worked with ProMed and the Pocahontas Fire Department to test the skills they have learned in a real-world scenario.

Three Rivers College is announcing that students registered for Fall classes by June 30 will be the first group reviewed for Three Rivers Endowment Trust scholarship eligibility for the 2022-2023 school year. This priority scholarship deadline is to help ensure that funds are available for scholarship recipients at the very beginning of the semester.

Powhatan Historic State Park will host two canning workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 2 and July 9. The cost of the workshop is $20 and reservations are required. Those taking part will learn the process and history of canning foods, and pick up some tips as well.
