Clay County Fair t-shirts available through Aug. 1

Clay County Fair t-shirts are available now for $15 each and can be purchased by calling Lisa Conley at 870-634-6118 or message on the fairs Facebook page at Clay County Arkansas Fair Association. Organizers note that no extra shirts will be order and that Monday, Aug. 1 is the deadline to place your order. This year’s shirts feature the theme Rockin’, Ridin’ & Livestockin’.

McCoy and Collier reunion planned

Plans are underway for a reunion of all descendants and relatives of the late Newton Jasper McCoy and Arthur Collier. The event will take place from 12 noon until 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Rector Community Center. Everyone is asked to bring a dish and enjoy the fellowship. Annual Nimmons Old Timers Dinner to be held Sept. 4

Organizers of the annual Nimmons Old Timers Dinner are happy to announce the dinner will once again take place. This year’s dinner will be held beginning at noon on Sunday, Sept. 4, at the community center. Current, and former, residents of the Nimmons area are invited to attend, and bring a dish for the potluck meal. They’ll also be accepting donations at the door, with the proceeds going toward the continued upkeep of the Nimmons Cemetery.

KENTUCKY HEADHUNTERS TO PERFORM AT CLAY COUNTY FAIR

The Clay County Fair Association will present The Kentucky Headhunters at 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Clay County Fairgrounds Arena. Special guests will be The Comancheros and Joe Bateman and the Dream Killers will be the opening act. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased by calling 870-598-4524 or 870-598-4376. The fairgrounds are located at 658 East North Street in Piggott at the corner of East North Street and Garfield Avenue.

Kaydee Taylor (center) was crowned Miss St. Francis 2022 at the annual picnic Saturday. She is the 16-year-old daughter of Johnny and Amanda Payne of Kennett. Mara Leveritt, true-crime author and investigative reporter, visited the Rector Public Library on Thursday evening and discussed several of her books that are of local interest. “I am a truecrime writer, but my writing is different. I do not dwell on the crime itself with gore and guts, inflammatory incidents and incriminations about who might-have done it. My writing is about crimes – after the crime.”
