Quilting workshop planned at Powhatan

Quilting, a popular pastime, joined together not only pieces of fabric, but people’s lives. With this in mind, a Beginners Quilting Workshop has been planned at Powhatan Historic State Park. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, and the regis-tration fee is $15. Organizers note participants will learn the basics of quilting: from piecing the squares, layering the quilt, and the quilting stitch. Fee includes all materials and class size is limited. PHS FBLA earns national honors

After two years of participating in virtual National Leadership Conferences, Piggott FBLA returned to the national spotlight with student members receiving national awards and the chapter receiving national recognition. The 2022 FBLA National Leadership Conference in Chicago, IL was another record-setting year for PHS FBLA as three events received top-ten awards.

Rector Community Museum to host Territorial Arkansas Exhibit

Territorial Arkansas: The Wild Western Frontier, a traveling exhibit that is free to the public tells the story of Arkansas Territory, will be displayed at Rector Community Museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays beginning July 28 and running through Aug. 11. The museum is located at 310 Main Street, Rector, AR. The traveling exhibit consists of 15 panels that explore the his-tory of Arkansas Territory though the collections of the Arkansas State Archives and their branch archives, the Northeast Arkansas Regional Archives in Powhatan and the Southwest Arkansas Regional Archives in Washington.

Annual picnic held at Pollard

Despite hot and humid conditions, good crowds were the order of the day Saturday, July 9, as the 89th annual Pollard Picnic was held. Each year the event is held at the picnic grounds in Pollard, with the proceeds benefiting the continued upkeep of the New Hope Cemetery.
