Annual Nimmons Old Timers Dinner to be held Sept. 4
Organizers of the annual Nimmons Old Timers Dinner are happy to announce the dinner will once again take place. This year’s dinner will be held beginning at noon on Sunday, Sept. 4, at the community center. Current, and former, residents of the Nimmons area are invited to attend, and bring a dish for the potluck meal. They’ll also be accepting donations at the door, with the proceeds going toward the continued upkeep of the Nimmons Cemetery.
2022 Rector Labor Day pageant schedule is set
In keeping with event tradition, a full slate of pageants will be held in conjunction with the 2022 edition of the Rector Labor Day Picnic. This year’s pageants are scheduled for both Sunday, Sept. 4, and Monday, Sept. 5, on the beauty revue stand of Memorial Park. And, with the exception of Monday night’s Miss Rector Pageant, the events are open to all.
Tickets for Labor Day $1,000 drawing available at Rector merchants
With the approach of the Labor Day holiday, the Woodland Heights Cemetery Commission is once again conducting a $1,000 drawing as a fundraiser. The drawing will take place on Monday, Sept. 5, on the main stage at the Rector Memorial Park following the Miss Rector Pageant. Persons do not have to be present to win. Once again this year tickets are $1 each, six for $5 or 25 for $20. Tickets will be available the day of the picnic and are also available at several area businesses. Rector businesses include Above & Beyond, Caffeinated Cow, Centennial Bank, Glen Sain Motor Sales, GPS Chiropractic, Graves Gin, OHP-Our Happy Place, Piggott State Bank-Rector Branch, Rector Downtown Drug, and The Vintage Junkie.
Sign-ups underway for Rector Labor Day 5K
Runners and walkers are still being recruited for the 2022 Rector Labor Day 5K Run/Walk, set for 8 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31. The event, which benefits the RHS Helping Hands Foundation, will begin in front of the Rector High School gymnasium.
Kentucky Headhunters tickets available
The Clay County Fair Association will present The Kentucky Headhunters at 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Clay County Fairgrounds Arena. Special guests will be The Comancheros and Joe Bateman and the Dream Killers will be the opening act. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased at Piggott State Bank, First National Bank and Turner Auto and Tire or by calling 870-598-4524 or 870-598-4376. The fairgrounds are located at 658 East North Street in Piggott at the corner of East North Street and Garfield Avenue.
Clay County Fair booth rental available
The Clay County Fair is set for Sept. 14 to 17, and commercial booths are now available for rental. The booths are indoor, air conditioned and include electrical hook-ups in some spaces. Rental rates are just $50, which covers the full run of the fair. Those wanting additional information, or to reserve a booth, may contact Barbara Collier at 870-598-7311.


Rector standout Calhoun named to RHSSHOF
Times-Democrat News Staff Former Cougar standout athlete Hillary Calhoun, Rector High School class of 2009, has been named to the Rector High School Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the class of 2022. She will be inducted at the annual RHSSHOF luncheon on Saturday, Sept.

Holmes assumes duties as new Clay County FCS agent
Times-Democrat News Staff Christin Holmes recently accepted the position of Clay County Family and Consumer Service agent with the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture after the retirement of agent Debbie Baker. A former teacher and counselor for the Rector School District, Homes is excited to get started on her new pathway.
