The American Red Cross will be hosting a blood drive from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Fifth and Pine Church of Christ in Rector will be hosting a back to school giveaway from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 7. Registered students in grades K-12 of Rector Public Schools who are in need of school supplies are invited to drive by the church building to receive a bag of free school supplies. Students must be accompanied by a parent.
Plans are underway for a reunion of all descendants and relatives of the late Newton Jasper McCoy and Arthur Collier. The event will take place from 12 noon until 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Rector Community Center. Everyone is asked to bring a dish and enjoy the fellowship. Organizers of the annual Nimmons Old Timers Dinner are happy to announce the dinner will once again take place. This year’s dinner will be held beginning at noon on Sunday, Sept. 4, at the community center. Current, and former, residents of the Nimmons area are invited to attend, and bring a dish for the potluck meal. They’ll also be accepting donations at the door, with the proceeds going toward the continued upkeep of the Nimmons Cemetery.
The annual Greenway School reunion will be held beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 5, at the Piggott Diner. Organizers encourage all former students to attend, and noted the event will be Dutch Treat. Those wanting information may contact Jane Cook at 870-324-0236.
The annual Greenway Picnic, to benefit the lovely Mitchell Cemetery, will be held Saturday, Aug.6. As usual, this year’s picnic will include a full schedule of beauty pageants for contestants of all ages.
In keeping with event tradition, a full slate of pageants will be held in conjunction with the 2022 edition of the Rector Labor Day Picnic. This year’s pageants are scheduled for both Sunday, Sept. 4, and Monday, Sept. 5, on the beauty revue stand of Memorial Park. And, with the exception of Monday night’s Miss Rector Pageant, the events are open to all.
Eligible residents can receive payment assistance for summer utilities. Officials with the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) have announced residents can begin submitting applications Monday, July 25 for help with the costs of summer cooling bills, including those from Entergy Arkansas and other utilities.
Black River Area Development Corporation (BRAD) announces Summer Energy Assistance will begin accepting applications on Monday July 25, 2022. Applications will be accepted until it appears funds will be depleted.
