Bluegrass festival to feature The Dillards

The Bluegrass & Fried Chicken festival is set for Aug. 26 & 27 at the Ozark Folk Center State Park in Mountain View, Ark. The Skillet Restaurant located onsite will serve its famous fried chicken buffet in between music shows at the park’s 1,000-seat indoor music venue, Ozark Highlands Theater. The music festival will feature an extended show on Friday night, a Saturday matinee and a Saturday evening extended show featuring the region’s biggest names in bluegrass and top touring bands.

Canning class planned at Hemingway Pfeiffer

A “Peach Topping Preserves” canning class will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25 at the Education Center of the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum. Class size is limited therefore interested parties should sign up soon. This will be a hands-on class. Attendees will receive a recipe and a jar of the peach preserves to keep. RDC funds powerwashing project

Times-Democrat News Staff Rector Downtown Central president Jane Gatewood representing the Downtown Central Board consisting of Brandy Cook, Sarah Boyd, and Simeon Snow contracted with Shaine Hurt with VIP Cleaning Services to power wash, clean, remove mold, and wash the sidewalks and curbs, along with the aluminum awnings on the west side of Main Street. Work was completed on Friday, Aug 19, in front of Rector Barber and Style Shop which has recently updated their exterior.

Clay County attends 54th annual AAC meeting

Clay County elected officials attended the 54th annual Association of Arkansas Counties (AAC) Conference in Hot Springs on August 10-12, which had a record attendance this year with more than 850 attendees. Those attending enjoyed a slate of educational breakout sessions. Among the speakers were opening session speaker, Congressman Bruce Westerman, National Association of Counties 1st Vice President Mary Jo McGuire, Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Chris Jones, who could not attend but sent a pre-recorded interview with Legal Counsel Lindsey French, Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin and Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
