RDC hosts Sunday afternoon party

Rector Downtown Central hosted a big party on Sunday afternoon prior to Labor Day. A large crowd estimated at 150 downtown enthusiasts either participated in the Cornhole Tournament or set up lawn chairs and enjoyed the beautiful Sunday afternoon at Rector Downtown Park. Ice Cream supplied by The Caffeinated Cow Ice Cream and Coffee Shoppe added a dollop of enthusiasm and a variety of ice cream choices.

Maynard Pioneer Days planned

Maynard’s 42nd annual Pioneer Days is set to get underway Sept. 15-17 in that community. Things will kick off on Thursday, Sept. 15 with “School Night” at 5 p.m. at the Pioneer Park and Museum. The festivities continue Friday at 5 p. with a delicious chicken ‘n dumplings or hamburger plate, the announcement of Pioneer Prince and Princess, baked goods contest and auction. At 7 p.m. a free concert will feature Marco Cooper and Southern Rain. The annual parade is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, followed by the posting of colors, blacksmithing demonstrations, Show N Shine, craft vendors and concessions. There will be contests and live music by the Legendary Places with parade and contest winners announced at 12:30 p.m. and a turkey shoot at 1 p.m.

Clay County 4H members attend workshop

Five Clay County 4H members attended the 4H Tech Changemakers Workshop at the 4H Center in Ferndale, Little Rock during the week of August 8-12. They explored the impact of the digital divide in their communities and will be working on increasing digital inclusion. The members also toured many companies in Little Rock to explore careers they offer and educational qualifications needed for employment. “Be on the lookout for a Tech Changemakers workshop offering in your community soon,” commented a 4H member.

Piggott city wide yard sale set Oct. 8

In response to popular demand, the Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a fall city wide yard sale on Saturday, Oct. 8. As with the spring event, the yard sale fee will be waived by the City of Piggott for that day and a list of participating locations will be available from the Chamber of Commerce. Organizers also report a scrap electronics, or E-Waste, effort will follow in mid-October in conjunction with the regional landfill. Those wanting to include their sale on the list may call the Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce during regular business hours at 870-598-3167 or email chamberpg@yahoo.com.

Fishing rodeo planned at Heritage Park

A family fishing rodeo will be held from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Sept. 24 at Heritage Park in Piggott. Age Categories are children one to eight years, teen eight to 15 years and adult 16 years and up up. The grand prize in the children category will be a DMF Micro Spin cast dock combo fishing pole, in the teen category the grand prize will be a Lew’s laser lite fishing pole and in the adults the prize is a Lew’s hypersonic speed spin fishing pole.
