The first Arkansas Press Freedom Gala will be held Thursday, Oct. 20 in the Wally Allen Ballroom at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock. The evening will begin with a reception at 6 p.m., followed by a steak dinner and the program at 7 p.m. The event will be hosted by the Arkansas Press Association.
Rector 4-H Tech Changemakers are excited to announce a series of workshops teaching digital skills to help people access important resources and learn the most in-demand digital skills. These workshops are free and open to everyone. The first workshop will be on finding and organizing files along with responsible behavior guidelines for the internet. It is set for 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at Rector First United Methodist Church located at the corner of 3rd and Main Streets. The 2022 college application campaign season has arrived. #WhyApply Day kicks off the application season and provides encouragement for students. This is part of an initiative to support students through the college application process, especially first-generation college students and those from lowincome families who may not otherwise apply to college. Six teachers from RHS was asked to share something they learned in college. “For our purposes, “college” refers to ANY additional training/education one might need to obtain a desired career. This includes welding school, beauty school, etc. RHS is committed to encouraging applications to all types of additional training needed to pursue the career of choice,” commented RHS career coach Kathy Fowler.
Rector High School has scheduled a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) work night from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13, in the computer lab and will have representatives from ASU on campus to help students one-on-one. “It takes about 45 mins to work through the process IF they have all the needed documents with them,” commented RHS career coach Kathy Fowler.
The Arkansas Department of Human Services’ (DHS) Division of Aging, Adult, and Behavioral Health Services (DAABHS) in partnership with the Arkansas Association of Area Agencies on Aging (5A) hosted the 22nd Biennial Silver Haired Legislative Session (SHLS) on Aug. 17 and 18.
Twana Colvin, 72 of Rector, Ark., passed from this earth on September 11, 2022 at her home. She was born in Winfield, Ala., to the late William and Emma Jean (Fowler) Mayfield. She loved gardening, reading, crafting, collecting antiques, decorating and spending time with her adoring family. She was a great mom who loved her children and grandchildren fiercely.

Jerry Wayne Williams, 79, of Piggott, Ark., passed away Sept. 15, 2022, at Piggott General Baptist Nursing Home in Piggott.
Steven Lee Hubble, only 59 years old, left this world peacefully on September 8, 2022, in his home located in Sand Springs, Okla. He was born July 10, 1963 to Patricia Karol Dickus (Rodery) andJerry William Hubble.
