Pig-gott Smoked BBQ Cook-Off set for Saturday

Early fall will bring with it a new event to the Clay County Fairgrounds in Piggott, as the first ever Piggott Smoked BBQ Cook-Off is set for Saturday, Oct. 15. Presented by the Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce, over two dozen teams are slated to compete for cash and trophies— not to mention bragging rights. The day will also include live music, a cornhole tournament, bouncy houses for the kids, vendors and prizes as the sweet smell of barbecue will fill the air. Everyone is invited to attend.

Cougar bass teams have rewarding weekend

The Rector Junior and Senior Bass teams both had a rewarding weekend of fishing. On Saturday, Oct. 8 the junior team finished fourth in a tournament held at Lake Charles. On Sunday Oct. 9, they won the Big Bass and finished in first place in a tournament at Beaver Lake.

Mohawk volleyball update

Rector High School Cougars traveled to Brinkley to take on the Brinkley Tigers on Friday night. During the junior high game, the Brinkley field’s electric service kept the scoreboard and the press box alternately serviceable and in the dark.
