Art on the Ridge is hosting the first Art on the Ridge Second Saturday event from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m on Saturday, Oct. 8 that will feature an exhibition at the Blue Awning Gallery with art from Jared Vaughn, Jerri Tate, Milo Stephens and Sarah Guite. In addition, Clay County students’ artwork will be displayed outside the gallery. An original artwork by Jared Vaughn will be this month’s prize for the free raffle, sponsored by Piggott State Bank, also sponsoring the live music by Elliot Wade.
Eli Hester along with his mother and father, Tara and Jacob Hester traveled to Fayetteville for the weekend to attend the Arkansas Razorback game against the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday. Eli, a nine-year-old student at Rector Elementary, was selected in a Taco Bell promotional contest as ball hog for the Razorback game against Alabama.
Piggott Mohawk boys and girls tennis teams traveled to Cave City on Monday, Sept. 26.
In the Friday night battle between two Cougar teams, only one would claim the prize – and it was the Izard County Central Cougars who earned the victory over the visiting senior high Rector Cougars, 38 - 8. With the traveling fans looking for an outcome like the Junior Cougars enjoyed, the cheers for the Rector Cougars were loud. The fans celebrated Braden Thompson’s romp for four touchdowns and a ton of tackles along with the work of quarterback Chance Lopez and receiver Austin Avery plus the defensive plays of Waylon Haynes and others. With their 38 – 20 win, the Junior Cougars moved to 2-1-1 on the season.
The Rector 4H Show team headed to District this week to show off their livestock. During the goat show Jaylee Hollis received 8th Place. We then moved over to the cattle show. It started with the steer portion and Samual Shipley had a lightweight steer and he placed 1st. Then over in the heifer show Everleigh Bucy received 1st in the 1st class of Heifers, while Alexis Harmon got 1st in class 3. Alexis Harmon then got Grand Champion and Everleigh received the Re-serve, both in the AOB class. On Tuesday it started off with the pig show and Alexis Harmon got penned in the top 6 showman. We then went to the Duroc breeding gilt class and Tuck Clayton received 1st and then he received the Champion Duroc. During the spot breeding gilt show Hallie Simpson got 1st and Alexis received 2nd in class 1. Sam got 1st in class 2 of Spots. Then during the Grand drive of the Spot division Hallie was the grand Champion and Sam was the Reserve with their gilts. Last in the breeding classes Stella Clayton got 2nd, Hallie got 3rd. Then during the grand drive Stella got Reserve. The last class of the day for our club members was weight class 5 in the market show. Sam Shipley received 5th. Sam entered 3 pens of chickens into the fair that are not judged yet but in poultry showmanship he got 2nd. The club received 2nd place on their educational booth “Rector Cougars 4H presents Healthy eating”. Next week a couple of them head to Fayetteville for the Arkansas Youth Expo. The Three Rivers Endowment Trust will hold a Trivia Night fundraiser Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Kennett Country Club.
