Better Beginnings seeking nominations for outstanding early childhood professional

Better Beginnings, a program of the Department of Human Services (DHS) Division of Child Care and Early Childhood Education, is seeking nominations for the nextArkansas Outstanding Early Childhood Professional (AOECP). Established in 1988, this award administered by DCCECE honors an early childhood professional who makes significant contributions to the early care and education field in Arkansas.

HPMEC to host blog workshop

A workshop on “Introduction to Building a Successful Blog” will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11 from 9 a.m. to noon in the educational center of the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Educational Center. The cost is $35 per person and space is limited. If wanting to reserve a laptop for the workshop please advise when signing up.

Power couple share love for NEARK

“It’s worked out good,” shares Judge Mike Patterson, speaking of his forever partnership with wife Pat whom he met at First Federal Savings and Loan in Rector as he applied for a loan in the infancy of his real estate ventures. She opened the Savings and Loan as the manager, a position today that would be entitled president. “Those were the days that Savings and Loan establishments were important financial institutions and local entrepreneurs and regular citizens could establish good working relationships with them,” comments Pat Jones Patterson.

Cougars bring house down on Greyhounds

The Rector gym was packed, the crowd like what many said they’d not seen in several years. Seismic readings could have recorded shaking, rattling, rolling, and noise detectors buzzed off the chart, showing loud, louder, loudest chants and chomping cheers, “eat ‘em up, eat ‘em up.” Rector Homecoming banners proclaimed intention to shake down the house on rival Marmaduke Greyhounds, the opponent traveling only seven miles along an asphalt road to the Cougar Den.

1983 The Greenway girls junior and senior basketball teams were given the sportsmanship award at the Clay County Basketball Tournament held at Greenway recently. Team members included are: Carla Beck, Wanda Harris, Lealani Hardin, Kelly Harmon, Pam Loveless, Pam Petty, Leah Dortch, Becky Petty, Deneika Harris, Linda Speer, Lisa Bond, Sandy Brown, Janette Bridgeman and Gale Presson.
