Creating soap is not a difficult process – no more challenging than following a recipe for pastry and turning into a pie. Powhatan Historic State Park will host a soap making workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, where participants will learn the art of making soap with the cold-process method. The cost of the workshop is $25 and reservations are required. Participants will receive a booklet with soap recipes, several bars of homemade soap, and the knowledge of how to become squeaky clean! Please bring protective clothing, as some materials used are caustic and can burn. The registration fee covers the cost of materials but participants are asked to bring a sack lunch. A sculptor who has been responsible for recreating one of Arkansas’ own great American singersongwriters will visit Arkansas State University and the Historic Dyess Colony: Johnny Cash Boyhood Home on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3-4.

A Best Care workshop is planned for childcare providers in Clay, Greene, Lawrence, and Randolph Counties from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 4 at the Randolph County Chamber of Commerce, 106 E. Everett St. Class topics include body positivity, good nutrition and basic math, importance of immu-nizations, literacy in early childhood, money as you grow, guidance, kindergarten readiness, engaging children in physical activity, observation in early childhood and professionalism.
