Sharon Lingle Sharon Kay Lingle, 80, of Piggott, Ark., passed away February 23, 2023, at Piggott Community Hospital. She was born on September 9, 1942, in Piggott, and was the daughter of the late Grady Brauton and Kathleen (Pillow) Seal.
Wendell Eubanks Wendell Eubanks, 81, of Piggott, Ark., passed away February 21, 2023, at General Baptist Nursing Home in Campbell, Mo. He was born on January 12, 1942, in Greenway, Ark., and was the son of the late Clifford Roy and Stella (Spain) Eubanks.

he Piggott School District will be hosting two community meetings regarding the 2023- 2024 school year calendar. The meetings are set for Thursday, March 2, at 6: 30 p. m. in the elementary library and Monday, March 6, at the high school library also at 6: 30 p. m. The school has a school calendar survey which can be found at their website www. piggottschools. net or a link can be found on Piggott Elementary School’s Facebook page.
Clay County Quorum Court met on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at the courthouse in Corning.
The Piggott City Council met in regular session on Thursday, Feb. 23 at city hall with all members present. The council approved the minutes from the last meeting and approved the appointment of members to the planning and zoning committee, municipal airport board and parks and recreation advisory board. The property lien placement meeting will be held at the March meeting.
The 2A State Tournament will be played at Rector High School this week, a first for Rector and this northeast section of Arkansas. By the time the CCTD is published on Wednesday, Tuesday’s action, Feb. 28, will be in the books. The boys’ side of the bracket will have seen early action between Lavaca and Sloan-Hendrix with the early game at 2:30 p.m.. Bigelow and Hector (yes, with an H) Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., and EPC (East Poinsett County) will have played those pesky Redbugs from Fordyce in the big game at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening.
As of press time Tuesday, Feb. 28, the candidates filing for the upcoming school board election for the Piggott, Rector and Corning school districts were Robert Chandler filing for the open position at Piggott and Jamie Vavak filing for the position in Rector. Filing ends today, Wednesday, March 1 at noon. The annual school election is set for Tuesday, May 9. Those wanting additional information may call the Clay County Clerk’s office at 870-598-2813.
