Rector School Board moved its monthly meeting ahead by one week to get implementation agendas started and strategies addressed as they relate to the first year under the LEARNS Act, the “largest overhaul of the state’s edu-cation system in Arkansas history.” Changes to education contained in the act have brought both optimism and nervousness to school staff members, students, and their families. “Rector Schools will be just fine. We are in good shape,” said Superintendent Johnny Fowler in a separate interview prior to the board meeting held at 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 3, in the administration building.
Rector City Council met in regular session on Monday, April 3, at the Rector Community Center. The first order of business to come before the council was the introduction of and induction of Steve Ward as the new Rector Fire Chief. He was sworn in by Rector Mayor Shawn Brandon. Ward received the commendation of current fire staff in addition to fire staff leadership and through interviews.
The Piggott School Board held a special meeting on Tuesday, March 28 in the district administration office with all members present. Superintendent Freddie Bowen presented the board with the recommendation for expulsion for a student for 365 days.

BRTC’s Project REACH site located at Dalton reopened Tuesday, April 4. The REACH site will be open on Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and every second Saturday of the month from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. through the month of October.
