RHS Eighth graders take history trip

Arkansas history classes took a Friday morning field trip led by teacher Bridgette Branson to experience the Rector Community Museum and the Veterans Memorial Park. The two classes of eighth graders heard welcoming remarks and a brief history of early Rector related to Scatterville from Crystal Williams and Jane Gatewood, after which the classes explored the museum in peer groups.

Due to rainfall patterns become more extreme, pasture managers need to become proactive

Average temperatures in Arkansas have risen about 0.5 degrees over the past two decades, according to the North Carolina Institute for Climate Studies. One result of this has been more extreme patterns of rainfall and drought. Dirk Philipp, associate professor of forage agronomy for the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture, said these changes in rainfall patterns typically have a variety of effects — particularly on agriculture.

Child care fee assistance program for military families launches in Arkansas

Better Beginnings, a program of the Arkansas Department of Human Services Division of Child Care and Early Childhood Education focusing on giving children the best quality care, announces the statewide launch of Military Child Care in Your Neighborhood PLUS (MCCYN-PLUS), an expansion of the existing military fee assistance program benefitting military families in Arkansas.

BRTC CTC hosts high school preview days

Black River Technical College (BRTC) Career and Technical Center (CTC) hosted several preview days in the month of March. Nearly 600 students from Piggott, Rector, Marmaduke, Pocahontas, Walnut Ridge, Sloan Hendrix, Corning, Hillcrest, Hoxie, Maynard, Paragould, Greene County Tech, and Brookland High Schools visited both the Pocahontas and Paragould BRTC locations.
