A combined effort of Piggott Health Systems, First General Baptist Church and Piggott State Bank will host a free health and resource event on Thursday, April 27. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Family Life Center of First General Baptist Church located at 679 South Taylor in Piggott.
A tree walk will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, at the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum and Education Center and the Matilda and Karl Pfeiffer Museum and Study Center. This walk is to identify and discuss 15 different types of trees, their origin, history, use and age. This is a joined effort between the University of Arkansas and Arkansas State University. People are encouraged to sign up ahead of time. There is no cost for the program. For more information interested parties may call the museum at 870-598-3487.
As has been the case for scheduling baseball and softball games all season, the Rector Cougars and Lady Cougars juggled events to dodge potential heavy rain and wind. Recognition for the two teams’ senior players was moved to Wednesday. April 19, at 5 p.m., even then battling high winds in the Rector area.
The Piggott Mohawks hosted a great game against the Marmaduke Greyhounds Thursday, April 20, overwhelming the Greyhounds by winning 11-1. Marmaduke scored their only run in the first inning, with the Mohawks making their first runs in the second inning with runs from Shawn-Hudson Seegraves, Lawson Tompkins and Ashton Lemmons making the score three to one.
The Sun Senior Classic, played at Brookland High School gym and sponsored by Central Dealership, featured three Rector student athletes and two Piggott student athletes who played Sunday, April 23, playing for either the white or blue teams. Carly Rodden represented Rector and Grace Hooten represented Piggott on the girls’ blue team.
