Mohawk baseball off to slow start

Baseball season has definitely been a rainy season this year, as a few games were canceled or postponed due to wet conditions. The Mohawks started off slow in March losing to Gosnell and Corning and Osceola forfeiting the game on March 14. The game against Rector was cancelled on March 24 and the Tribe lost to Manila on March 27.

RHS SENIORS ATTEND BE PRO BE PROUD DRAFT DAY

Five Rector High School seniors participated in the Be Pro Be Proud Draft Day held Wednesday,April 12 at Nettleton High School. Each student interviewed with three companies on site,and although all five students are planning on attending college in the fall,they received some great experience from attending the event. In preparation for the event, students participated in resume building and mock job interviewing workshops.“I am so proud of these students for following through and completing the process which began back in February! Powhatan Historic State Park to host Trial by Jury

Powhatan Historic State Park will host a Trial by Jury from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 27. Put yourself in place where history happened as you become judge, part of the jury, a lawyer, or maybe even the accused as we bring a court case from Powhatan’s history to life. No acting experience is needed, but participants should come ready to dive in. Space is limited and reservations are required. There is a registration fee of $25. Clay County Sheriff ’s Department responds to Missouri Highway Patrol call

On Thursday, April 13, 2023 The Clay Sheriff’s Department received a call from Missouri Highway Patrol stating they had received a call from a lady that she was on the phone with her husband and that he was having trouble breathing. She stated during the conversation she lost contact with him. She reported that her husband was driving a semi-truck and trailer. The Highway Patrol stated they had an ambulance enroute to the rest area on Highway 67 north of Corning. Upon arrival the Clay County Sheriff’s Department found a subject lying beside his truck in the parking lot deceased. The Clay County Coroner was contacted and the victim’s name is being held at this time. It is reported the victim was from Puxico, Mo.

Powhatan Historic State Park to host Introduction to Gardening Workshop

Powhatan Historic State Park will host an Introduction to Gardening Workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 22. Join park staff to learn different methods of gardening, how to plan a garden, and the best plants to grow near each other. Participants are encouraged to bring garden gloves. Virtual claims clinic slated

The Little Rock VA Regional Office’s next Virtual Claims Clinic for Arkansas Veterans is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, April 27. During the upcoming Virtual Claims Clinic, veterans may speak to staff of the Little Rock VA Regional Office who are ready to assist them with specific questions regarding VA benefits claims.

Donna Sue (Rogers) McFarlin

Donna Sue (Rogers) McFarlin was born February 19, 1946, and passed away on April 16, 2023, at the age of 78 in Little Rock, Ark. Donna Sue was a caregiver for her parents and went above and beyond to provide the care they needed. She was a member of the Greenway Baptist Church.
