Taylor named PBTCC Teacher of the Year

Candy Taylor, a 1986 PHS graduate, was recently named Poplar Bluff Technical Career Center Teacher of the Year. Taylor has 32 years of teaching experience and was nominated for the award by Abby Crites, Health Occupations Instructor at Poplar Bluff Technical Career Center. “It was such an honor to receive this special recognition,” stated Taylor.

Memorial Day observed in Clay County

Piggott’s Memorial Garden Cemetery hosted services for Memorial Day Sunday afternoon, as the traditional ceremony was held along with the usual business meeting. On Friday, Mohawk athletes and coaches from all sports along with Girl Scout Troop 3016 gathered along the rolling hills of the cemetery and placed 876 American flags on the graves of the veterans.

Mary’s Chapel Cemetery meeting set June 11

The annual Mary’s Chapel Cemetery meeting will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 11, in the conference room of the Rector Community Center. Anyone with ties to the cemetery is urged to attend and help support the cemetery. Anyone interested in making a donation toward the upkeep of the cemetery may do so at any Regions Bank location to the Mary’s Chapel Cemetery Fund. You may also contact Perry Mills at 870783-0109.

PHS class of 1983 plans 40 year reunion

The PHS class of 1983 will be holding their 40year class reunion on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at the Sugar Creek Country Club at 6:30 pm. The cost for attendance is $30.00 per person / $50.00 per couple. The class photo will be taken at 6:45 p.m. sharp! Dinner and live music by Randy Harrington and the Southern Tradition Band will follow. Hotel accommodations at a reduced rate are offered for your personal booking through June 1 at both the Hampton Inn and the Holiday Inn Express in Paragould. Piggott Girl Scouts Troop holding raffle

Piggott Girl Scout Troop 3011 is currently selling chances for a knife raffle. Tickets are $10 each or three for $20 with each ticket purchase entitling you to three chances of winning. First prize is a custom Seth Miller knife, handmade in Boydsville, Ark., and valued at $250. Second prize is an Aitor El Montero, made in Spain and is used by Spanish Special Forces valued at $140. Third prize is a Condor Australian Army Machete. It is made in small batches in El Salvador with a value of $100. All proceeds will benefit the troop. Drawing will be held on June 16.
