Kiersten Gardner.

She is the daughter of Kissa Gardner and Matthew Gardner. Kiersten was in FBLA, HAD, JUST, G.T., student council, math club, BETA, yearbook, Interact, was a class officer and volunteered at the Paragould First Assembly of God. Her honors and awards include: first place in district and state for FBLA, sixth place in nationals for FBLA, 4.0 GPA for four consecutive years, she is the valedictorian, an honor graduate and was on the AState Chancellors list (fall 2021 and spring 2022). Her favorite school memory is playing and winning the school’s sixth grade softball tournament. Kiersten would like to be remembered as being helpful and hardworking.

Congratulations

Someone who is funny, serious, hardworking but also protective of family of friends is how Jackson West would like to be remembered. He is the son of Charity West and Jason West. His future plans include going to technical school and becoming a chassis fabricator. Jackson played football, basketball and soccer. His honors and awards include professional chassis fabricator. Jackson’s favorite school memory will be graduation.

International Firefighters Day ceremony held at Piggott Cemetery

On Thursday, May 4, the Piggott Cemetery Association held a ceremony in observance of International Firefighters Day by honoring the present and past firemen. International Firefighters’ Day is a time where the world’s community can recognize and honor the sacrifices that firefighters make to ensure that their communities and environment are as safe as possible.

Community Hospital holds disaster drill

Piggott Community Hospital participated in a regional disaster drill on Wednesday, May 3, with the help of Piggott High School students, city and county officials. This drill was a mock train crash which released toxic materials. This drill was to help in being prepared for a real disaster and to check on the length of time it took personnel to reach the hospital after they are called.

Piggott 4-H Livestock team hosting fundraiser

The Piggott 4-H Livestock team is currently hosting a You’ve Been “Budded” fundraiser through May 30. You can help support the club by “budding” a friend, family, business, or neighbor for $25. A display of clovers will be placed in the recipient’s yard. The lucky recipient can choose the next house by donating to continue the cause. You may also purchase clover protection for $10. CCSD reports car-train accident May 4

The Clay County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call Thursday, May 4, of a car hit by a train on County Road 478. The Sheriff’s Department, Rector Police De-partment and Rector First Responders responded to the call. Upon arrival they found a female still in the vehicle awake and alert. She was identified as Yolanda Handley, 32, of Springfield, Iowa. She was transported by ambulance to the Rector Airport and then airlifted to The Med in Memphis, Tenn.

Traffic stop results in arrests

The Clay County Sheriff’s Department reported at 11:12 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, a deputy was behind a pickup truck in Piggott and noticed the two males in the pickup smoking marijuana. The deputy then rolled his window down and could smell the marijuana smoke. He initiated a traffic stop on Houston Street where he made contact with the driver Jayden Warbritton of Rector, 48-year-old Billy Franklin of Holcomb, Mo., 39-year old Terry Warbritton of Kennett, Mo., and Dennis Lane of Farmington, Mo. While making contact with the subjects Terry Warbritton fled on foot and proceeded south on Houston. The deputy chased the subject down Houston, across the Piggott Cemetery into the woods. The deputy caught the subject at Brad Wright’s body shop on Madison Street. Terry Warbritton was arrested, released and transported by ambulance to the Piggott Community Hospital. It was learned that Warbritton had a parole violation warrant out of Missouri. The other subjects were arrested and released. The CCSD was assisted by the Piggott PD.
